Milk & Honey
134 Eldridge St.
near Broome St.
(unlisted)
The speakeasiest of them all, this unlisted treasure on the Lower East Side can only be identified by the "M & H Tailor" sign that remains on the dilapidated street window. If you're lucky enough to know somebody who knows somebody who knows the number—which changes every few months, just to keep things interesting—and manage to reserve one of the few tables at this tiny gem, you'll be treated to a distinctly refined cocktail experience. A strong and sublime cocktail can elicit an almost religious reverence, and when you're at Milk & Honey, you can't help but feel moved by a well-earned sense of release as the burdens and concerns of the outside world dissipate into the alcohol-infused ether.
